I was with a flying group, flying PA28 Warrior which is nice aircraft to fly comfortable for short journeys and hops across the channel. The Warrior was not equipped with modern avionics nor Airways equipped.
I wanted a faster and more comfortable plane more for touring and with modern Avionics and Airways equipped, and to have meeting to keep the aircraft clean and upgrade any equipment. Well maintained and maintained by the Engineer of my choice and the Pilots who enjoy flying, and proud to take their friends and families on trips in a comfortable aircraft.
I was encouraged and supported by my family to fulfill my childhood dreams, so I set out to purchase plane within my budget.
I looked at PA28 Archer, bit out of my budget for a nice archer, and would need at least 10K to upgrade the Avionics. I also looked at TB10 and nearly purchased one from Italy, negotiated a price from England, went to look and pre inspect the TB10 in Bari (Italy), I took the aircraft for test flight and was pleased, Came back on the Ground started talking finance the seller told me that they had to change the ADF 2 days ago and they wanted 5K more for the TB 10, I was not prepared to be blackmailed.
I looked into retractable Arrow and Rockwell, Talking to some pilots I was told it is very expensive to maintain a complex Aircraft, and “Pilots” not lowering the undercarriage and extra training, I decided to take engineer’s advice and spoke to now my good friend Martin Cavinder, pleased I did, I was told yes it is extra £300 -500 per annum and prop overhaul every six years approx. £1500.
I arranged to see the Rockwell OY-DVN for sale in Denmark, and decided to go and have look. I liked the aircraft and the Avionics stack was reasonable, was well maintained, and the paint work / upholstery was in good condition. It was love at first sight. And the rest is HISTORY
